Fall/Winter 2017-2018 Ready-To-Wear
September 18, 2017
Since his very first women’s collections, Ralph Lauren has drawn inspiration from the timeless elegance of men’s formalwear and the sculptural power and grace of his automotive collection. For this reason, Ralph Lauren’s personal car collection, a representation of modern yet enduring styles and sensibilities, provided the perfect backdrop to present his Fall 2017 Collection.
“My cars have always been an inspiration to me. I see them as moving art. My women's collection for Fall 2017 connects the elements of the speed, style and beauty of these handcrafted vehicles with the very modern, yet timeless spirit of the clothes. There is a sleekness, an innate sexiness and power to shapes sculpted out of high-tech patent leathers and high gloss silks,” said Ralph Lauren.
As with his automotive collection, an inherent sense of modernity and power threads through the lines of his Fall 2017 Collection, lending to the integrity and quality of his designs. These design details come to life in sculpted patent leather and high-gloss silk, two signature materials of his new Fall 2017 Collection. Traditional houndstooth and Glen plaid are reimagined in feminine proportions for the modern woman with men’s wear-inspired accents.
Tones of black and silver permeate the collection with pops of bright red, yellow and blue adding a playful elegance and bold vision of femininity to more refined pieces.
Design details, including the art-deco grille motif, embellished with a graphic “8” inspired by a 1920s Bugatti from Ralph Lauren’s personal collection, are resonant of the dramatic runway setting.
Men’s Purple Label designs, complementing Ralph Lauren’s vision of a woman for fall, evoke sartorial racing sensibilities, mixing sport with refined, bespoke tailoring. Haberdashery pieces juxtapose with strong graphic color play, automotive references and powerful racing stripes in bold silver, red and yellow.
