Spring/Summer 2017 Ready-to-Wear

Carolina Herrera

There was an assured sense of confidence in Carolina Herrera’s 35th anniversary collection. The items that strutted down the runway were clearly inspired by a modern interpretation of highlights from Herrera’s past. The designer expressed a desire for her collection to feel effortless. This was evident in the color palette, the accessories, as well as the designs. The color scheme featured muted, neutral tones, from blacks, khakis and denim blues, highlighted by wisps of pink. This evoked a sense of calm from a designer who has confidently found her style voice. Some of the standouts from the collection included beautiful evening gowns, which each harkened back to a special moment in Herrera’s past. Other highlights included a lovely structured denim dress. The fabrics featured also spoke to a certain calm, with tulles and paper thin, metallic brocades. Herrera’s expansion into a more contemporary style was evident in ways such as the knit sweater, which featured a 35 on the sleeve. As always, Herrera’s gowns were the most enviable element of the show.
